DE LAAK, SPECIALS, AMERSFOORT

six single-family homesIn the new residential area in Amersfoort De Laak – designed by West 8 – Drost + van Veen designs architects at six strategic locations so-called ‘specials’: properties that will constitute the landmarks in the district. These special properties will also create a sense of belonging to the place. The ‘specials’ in the Laak distinguished from the surrounding houses by their sharp silhouettes and their special interior spaces. The tower houses have tower rooms with a large window, overlooking marinas and reed beds. The bridge apartments have spacious living rooms with terraces to the water boundaries.Although the houses vary in volume and plan, they have clear architectural similarities. The effect is selected for large brick surfaces in two earth tones and grouped façade openings. This housing is the contemporary equivalent of traditional gate or building bridges. In short: houses with character.
