A new entrance and a new identityThe Plaswijckpark situated on a large lake area in Rotterdam. It is both a family recreation park as a historical park. Due to increasing visitor traffic and parking was pressed around the entrance in the district too large and was chosen for relocation of the entrance to an urban highway, the Ringdijk. The new entrance to the park includes a pedestrian bridge – which connects the adjacent parking with the entrance area. There are the ticket office, an office building with a souvenir and candy shop and restaurant. From the main entrance a linear route runs in the park. To strengthen this line the entrance area has a distinct tail: the bridge, and heading the restaurant. The bridge and the buildings are, by their idiom, materials and construction into one ‘family image’.The principles in the elaboration of the buildings are the identity of the environment, the world of children and the relationship between building and nature. The concept for each of the buildings is a rectangular glass box for maximum relationship inside-outside, covered with a folded covering of reeds: an organic skin that protects and is reflected in the environment: luxury villas with their thatched roofs.
