Live among the treesThe former barracks grounds in Vught be redeveloped into a residential area Stadhouderspark. Drost + van Veen architects designing this 79 properties in various types. Harmony with the many existing trees on the site is the design premise. For example by using the natural materials of wood, cane and (slate) stone. The site is divided into two areas: outskirts and Parkbos. Subdraft outskirts gets a “contemporary traditional” character with subdued designed, detached villa with a spacious garden and 2-under-one-roof houses. The sloping thatched roofs and spacious floor plans refer to the existing luxury villas in Vught. In the sub-plan Parkbos are apartment buildings and four-under-one-roof house “between the trees and leaves.” The ground floor of the residential buildings is lifted. Flat roofs and white, concrete frames form a striking contrast with the wood. Wicker facades create unity with the residences in the outskirts.
